Permit
To get a permit as a homeschooler, your student should be at least 15 years of age. You will need the below list of documents.
- Driver’s License Application
- School Attendance Form
- Original Birth Certificate
- Social Security Card
- Two Proofs of Residency (current)
- Parent’s ID
The school attendance form should be completed by you with the third option “non-public school” selected. You must then get it notarized. Do not sign the bottom until in the presence of the notary. You will have 30 days from the date of notary to get the permit.
License
The new driver must have held the learner’s permit for twelve months or until their 17th birthday (whichever occurs first) before qualifying for a Regular driver’s license.
You will need to bring the below list of documents when you return to the DMV for the license.
- Permit
- Same drivers application submitted for permit
- Original Birth Certificate
- Social Security Card
- Two Proofs of Residency (current)
- Parent’s ID
- School Attendance Form
- Driving Test Waiver
You must complete the school attendance form anew and get it notarized again. You will also need a notarized driving test waiver, if they are under the age of 17. I highly recommend you bring a notarized driving test waiver even if they are 17, just in case. Some DMV workers will ask for it regardless.
